Large Floor Graphic

We printed this beach scene on Walk-N-Wall vinyl and put it in front of the door to our shop! So far, it’s holding up very well, and makes you feel like you are at the beach instead of New Hampshire in winter!

This particular wall and floor vinyl has a thick layer of adhesive that makes it suitable for not-so-smooth surfaces like concrete and asphalt, as well as concrete block and PVC walls. We thought nothing would stick to FRP wall panels, but this stuff does!

We actually find that people use it for way-finding signage on factory floors, labeling of areas, and safety signage.

Most wall covering is made for application to drywall, which is pretty smooth. This material works a lot better when the wall has a heavy texture.

Sustainable Packaging for MegaPrint

Here’s an innovation that we are using for packing smaller pieces, it’s called Geami.

We were using a lot of bubble wrap, and a salesman suggested that we give this a try. We love it! It costs about the same, but uses a sustainable resource as well as taking up a lot less room in our facility. As a guy who has been selling most his life, I appreciate a sales guy who becomes a resource!

Geami comes to us as two rolls of paper, the kraft (brown) roll is perforated so that, as it comes off the machine, it becomes a honeycomb.

The white layer keeps the kraft layer from going back to flat when it’s pressed against something flat. At least, that’s how I understand it.

What you wind up with is something that cushions our shipment as well as bubble wrap, without putting plastic into a landfill. That’s good for the environment, and good for us!

Wall Mural in a Museum

Here’s a wall mural that I saw in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam last summer. Not our work, unfortunately, but certainly the sort of thing we do. It was sections of several self portraits, blown up to wall size, with the actual original paintings on display. Very cool.

Generally, if you get us a good hi-resolution photo we can make outstanding looking wall murals that are faithful to color and very attention getting.

Wall Mural for a Boutique

Store Wall Mural

Here’s a custom wall mural we printed recently for our good customer North Country Chic in Fenton Michigan. They recently moved into new space, and used the wall mural to complete the look. The owner says that it completes the look of her store “to a T”.

As I look at it, there was a big white space that needed something, and what would be better than a wall mural of seven young women showcasing the store’s goods?

In this case they used our wallboard vinyl material, which has a pre-applied “sticky note” adhesive. That means it can be applied without using paste, and is easily removed when you want to change the decor.

Big Printer for MegaPrint Inc.!

126″ Bed Printer

We took delivery of this Agfa 3200i printer yesterday. It made it through the door by about a half inch! We are really proud of it.

It has a 126″ print width, which allows us to print 10 foot wide banners. On top of that, it’s really fast, gets great color with it’s 6 color ink system, has white ink for printing on already colored materials, and uses LED lamps for curing the UV inks. Whew!

Over the next few days our output team will be trained on it’s operation and we’ll run the first few jobs. Then it will become part of our normal banner printing operation. We look forward to serving you with our new banner printer!

Custom Yoga Mat Printing

Custom Printed Yoga Mat

Here’s a custom printed yoga mat we printed for our good customer Down Dog as part of our flatbed printing fulfillment program. Their website brings in the yoga aficionados and their photos, we print on standard size yoga mats. The customer has their custom printed yoga mat in about a week, delivered by the US Mail.

We print on the yoga mats with our flatbed UV printer. The printing turns out to be quite durable, this custom printed yoga mat has been tracked all day through our front door for several months. It looks like the day it was printed!

Cartoon Photo Tiles

Cartoons on Foamcore Tiles

So here’s a fun gift item just in time for Christmas- cartoons printed on 8×8″ square gatorboard. They come with 3M stickies on the back so they are easily mounted on your wall, and they come off without damaging it.

You can find the cartoons for download at cartooncollections.com, and you can order the tiles using the Instiles App, available at Google Play or the App Store. Cartoon Collections has nearly a million cartoons from back issues of the New Yorker, Esquire, and several other publications. It’s very fun just to browse through it!

The gatorboard is 1/2″ thickness, white face with a black core and back. It makes a nice presentation! Think about using them for gifts for people at work, family and friends.

Window Graphics

Applying Adhesive Vinyl Window Graphic

I was in New York a few weeks ago and I walked past a couple of guys installing an adhesive vinyl window graphic. Not one of ours, I’m afraid, but I find it always useful to see how things are used in the field.

We recommend that people install their adhesive vinyl window graphics on the outside of the window, although they often worry that the public will pick at it. This job was being installed on the outside, so I felt good about that.

Installing an adhesive vinyl window graphic on the inside of a window has three issues:

First of all, we can’t print on the adhesive, so what you wind up doing is printing on a vinyl substrate and then applying the adhesive on top of it. That’s an extra step, and costs more.
Secondly, vinyl on the inside of a window will get pretty warm if it’s in direct sunlight. It’s the old greenhouse effect. If you warm up the adhesive, it softens and can let go, dropping the graphic to the floor. We’ve had that happen to a customer.
Finally, there’s often a lot of stuff in a store that backs up to the window, things like shelving, refrigerators, and displays. Moving them can be a bigger job than putting up the window graphics.

People worry that someone will pull down the vinyl, or vandalize it, and I understand the concern. But, if it will survive on 8th Avenue, it probably will anywhere!

Big Maps

We printed this large map of Squam Lake for the Squam Lake Natural Science Center. They have it as part of their new lake cruise shore facility, and it shows people a map of the lake and where the cruise will go.

We printed this large map on 1/4″ Sintra® PVC board, since it’s outdoors and needs to be waterproof. It’s actually two 42×84″ sheets of material printed edge to edge. They fit together perfectly.

For indoor large maps, we often print on wallpaper, which we do as 48″ wide strips and can go up to very large sizes.

Oh, and the Squam Lake cruise is definitely worth it! We saw four bald eagles, 15 loons including 3 chicks, and lots of other wildlife when we did the cruise last Friday. This time of year the foliage is pretty spectacular too.

Call Don’t Fall Ceiling Tiles

Custom Ceiling Tiles

This is the third time we’ve printed ceiling tiles with a “Call Don’t Fall” message. Our customers use them in hospital rooms to remind patients to call for help when they want to move about. The hospital rooms are often crowded with equipment, and the ceiling is a great place to put the message.

We print ceiling tiles with a custom message in either 2×2′ size, as seen here, or in 2×4′ size. When we do 2×2’s, we usually print a 2×4 foot size and cut in in half.

Typically we print on an Armstrong 942 ceiling tiles. They are easily available, affordable, and are flat which is important to our flatbed printing process. While there are a large number of specification grade ceiling tiles out there, we find that we run into issues of cost, minimum orders, and flatness that argue for using the 942 when printing ceiling tiles.
