Baseball Wallpaper Installed

We shipped the baseball custom wallpaper (see my last post) on Thursday, the customer received it on Friday, and in my email this morning was a picture of it installed!  In the words of our customer, the picture doesn’t do it justice- it’s fantastic!

Just so you know, we are really serious about making our delivery promises. This customer had the installers all set to go for the weekend, and our custom wallpaper was there on time for them. That’s how we do business.

In fact, we are installing our second UV printer next week. It’s part of our commitment to this business, and to never be late on a shipment. The new machine will triple our capacity for custom wallpaper printing. We expect to need it!

Corporate Lobby Wallpaper

Like Being in a Stadium!

When you walk in this company’s lobby, they want it to feel like you just walked into the ballpark. So we printed wallpaper for their lobby that is a photo taken during opening day ceremonies. It’s really striking! 12×28 feet of Opening Day! What a feeling! One thing is for sure, it will stir the blood of a baseball fan walking into that room.

What you are seeing here is the lobby wallpaper laid out before we pack it up, just to be sure everything lines up perfectly. Wallpaper like this doesn’t come in repeating patterns, so we make it in 4 foot wide strips with an inch of overlap. When you get the second piece up, you cut through the overlap and remove the excess, leaving a butt joint that is very hard to see.

We made them promise to send a picture of the custom wallpaper installation, and we can’t wait to see it. Stay tuned!

So OK, I’m a baseball fan and I find this to be exciting. But, if you think about it, whatever gets your blood up can make some pretty exciting corporate lobby wallpaper. Or non-profit, educational, or sports wallpaper. We’ve already done a hockey rink, a few banks, restaurants and bars, stores, golf courses, movie sets, museums, and of course many homes.

Wallpaper where you don’t expect it

I was surprised to see this use of custom printed wallpaper in the BWI airport last week as I passed through. It turns the drywall across the gate areas into advertising for a local college. Sadly, it’s not custom wallpaper that we printed.

Still, I like the concept of what they did, and it turns some rather plain pieces of wall into something pretty dramatic and interesting. It certainly grabs your attention, and that’s what you want to do with advertising.

To my way of thinking, this opens up a whole new way to do advertising. Take any plain piece of wall, slap up some custom printed wallpaper, and you have a new source of revenue. Another thing to consider here would be our repositionable fabric, which goes up very easily and is easily removed. Most people find that they can install repositionable fabric without hiring a wallpaper installer. Essentially, it’s a light fabric with “sticky note” glue on it.

Either product can be done with brilliant colors, accurate to size, and in about a week.

And, I had a great time going to the Red Sox spring training opener in Fort Myers!

Banner Stands Make a 12 Foot Display

When it comes to making a temporary display, there’s nothing easier than a string of banner stands!

In this case, our customer wanted a display that he could take to a trade show, and then put in the real estate office afterwards. We made a 12 foot long display by putting four banner stands side by side. This gives them the ability to move things around too. As you can see, the panel on the left is designed to stand by itself or with the other three.

As you can see, the graphics were designed to work this way. You really don’t want type going between the panels, since there is a 1/4″ gap between them. You can do it with things like the header, but don’t be breaking words, or worse, letters. If you design it right, the gaps between the banner stand panels become unnoticeable.

One of the best things about banner stands is that they are completely self contained, so when you change your mind about where they need to go, you simply move them. That doesn’t look as good as you thought it would? Move them back. It takes a minute.

This customer used our premium banner stand, which has easily replaceable graphics. The next time they go to a trade show, they can bring a totally new set of graphics with a minimum of fuss.

Large Format Printing Facility Done Right!

When our business got to a size that we thought about moving into larger space, we looked at a lot of places to rent. Every place we considered required a lot of work to be able to do what we do, and it would still be a less than perfect space for us.

We decided to build our own building. That allowed us to have large open areas, and important thing when you are making things as large as we do. As importantly, we are able to control our temperature and humidity for the printing process. We installed high speed computer wiring throughout. Finally, it’s clean, and that’s really important to getting good results.

Since we first built it in 1998 we’ve added on three times, bringing our space up to 17,500 square feet. A lot of companies think they are saving money by being in old grungy factory space. They probably pay less in rent, but we think we are able to do our job better and faster by being where we are. After all, how do you tell people you want to make beautiful large format prints when you put them in an ugly dirty building?

Stores Signs for Retailers

Every store has needs for retail store signage that lets the customer know where to go. If you are Home Depot, all that is done by headquarters store design. If you run a small store, you get to do it for yourself!

The picture shows signs we did for Rand’s Hardware in Plymouth NH. They needed store signs to let their customers know how their plumbing department was organized, and we printed them several two-sided store signs on styrene that do the job very nicely. They are durable and attractive, and they help people find what they need in the store more easily.

We really enjoy doing enlargements of historical photos. First of all, it’s fun to see how things looked all those years ago. People also find them to be interesting, and they’ll take the time to really examine them. This photo enlargement is from the collection of our local historical society, and hangs in the offices of MVSB, one of our local banks.

You’ll often see people looking at an historical photo like this, trying to see if their house had been built when the picture was taken, or talking about buildings that are no longer there.

Our new HP z6100 printers have three shades of black, and give us exceptional color depth when printing black and white photos, especially on glossy paper. Give it a try- you’ll be impressed!

We can either take your historical photo and scan it, or you can scan it locally and send us the digital file. Honestly, we would rather you send us the file, since very old photos can be pretty fragile. If you are sending the photo, be sure to put it between sheets of cardboard to protect it.

Banner Stand for a Traveling Event

Ever since they came on the market, we’ve thought that there’s nothing better than a retractable banner stand to travel around with a visiting expert. Here’s one we just did for a celebrity chef doing a tour of college cafeterias. In about ten seconds she can have signage that tells everybody what is going on and who is doing it.

 

The other great thing about the banner stand is that you can put it wherever it needs to go, move it around as needed, and never have to worry about how you are going to fixture it. It’s completely self contained. When the event is over, you let it retract into it’s canister, and put the whole thing into a handy nylon carrying case. Put it over your shoulder and off you go to the next place.

We like the idea for a visiting chef, and it works great for author book signings and visiting speakers just as well. We also see them used extensively at trade shows, in retail, and in public areas like airports and train stations. Whenever you have a need for portable signage, give a retractable banner stand some consideration!

Photo Wallpaper – from your digital photo!

Athletic Photos on Wallpaper

You would be amazed what we can do with a fairly ordinary digital photo. The photo wallpaper at the right was made from two separate 5 megapixel digital photos. The final photo wallpaper is 11-1/2 feet tall- notice the doorway at the right! They are stunning, and give this college’s new athletic center an exciting look.

It turns out that we can resample your photos up so that the pixels are small enough that you won’t notice them. There are some tricks in Photoshop that allow us to do this without causing problems with the photo.

Also, understand that you aren’t going to go right up to the photo and expect it to be as clear as one in a magazine. These photo murals are to be viewed from several feet away, and we don’t try to make them razor sharp up close. Nor could we! But they are spectacular, and we get wallpaper from digital photographs that will knock your socks off.

If you want to put a photo of your town, your last vacation, your kids, or whatever on a wall in your home or business, it’s easily done. Give us a call when you want to turn your digital photo into wallpaper.

Museum Displays on Sticky Back Vinyl

One thing about museum displays. They change. So it becomes important to have the large format graphics done on a material that can be easily changed out. We suggest our Wallboard Vinyl for this kind of thing. It’s an adhesive backed vinyl with a special “sticky note” glue on the back that adheres nicely to surfaces like painted drywall.

When the exhibit is over, you can pull it down as easily as pulling a sticky note off the wall, and put up the next set of displays. We have several museums that are finding this to be a great way of doing temporary museum displays.
You can also put these museum display back up somewhere else if you like, the adhesive will work many times as long as you don’t get it dirty. Which also means that you can move things around easily on your museum display if you decide a change is needed.
