Temporary Signs

Banner as a Temporary Sign

Signs are a really important thing in business. Some, however, are only temporary signs as opposed to permanent ones. You can often save a lot of money buying a temporary sign that will last a few years instead of a traditional sign that will go 20 years.

The temporary sign in the photo is a vinyl banner on a sales office for a real estate development. Hopefully, they’ll sell the place out long before 20 years go by! The banner will serve them very well, and at a fraction of the cost of a 20 year sign.

The ink system we use has UV stable inks that are good for 3-5 years, and we’ve had banners used as temporary signs hanging around town for at least that long that still look pretty good!

Easel Signs for Meetings

Easel signs for meetings

Foamcore Sign on an Easel

When you are doing a meeting, you’ll have easel signs all over the place. They’ll be in front of meeting rooms showing the schedule, at the registration desk, in the break rooms, even at the bus pickup area.

We do a lot of easel signs, usually direct printed on foamcore. This new technology is a single step printing process, and much more affordable than earlier processes that required printing on paper and then mounting to foamcore board.

You get the same great four color printing at photo realistic resolution. The only difference is that the inkjet printing is done directly to the easel sign. We are finding that people can’t even tell the difference. Which is great- the same product at a better price!

So, when the time comes to order your easel signs for your next meeting, think of us!

Trail Head Kiosk Signs

signs for trail head kiosks

AMC Kiosk Signs

At the beginning of every hiking trail, there’s a kiosk with information the hiker should know, most importantly a map and the rules of the area. Located as we are at the edge of the White Mountain National Forest, we do a fair number of these trail head kiosk signs. Most recently, we did these for the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Lodge at Mount Cardigan.

The trail head kiosk signs are printed on 1/8″ Sintra using our UV flatbed machine. The inks go straight onto the board, which is a real time saver. The inks are also very stable in sunlight, waterproof, and durable. Sintra is a foamed PVC sheet that’s very good as a sign making material, and the inks are bright and happy on it.

In this application, the AMC put a piece of clear plexiglass over the kiosk signs, just because they expect a lot of people poking at them with their hiking poles. Cardigan Lodge gets a lot of traffic.

Sharing Spreadsheets with Google Docs

spreadsheet with Google Docs

Large format printing job schedule

For years we’ve kept our large format printing production schedule on a shared Excel 2007 spreadsheet. Everyone has access to the file, which we kept on the server.

In the last few months, we’ve had a continual problem with the spreadsheet changing to a non-shared version all by itself, and it drove us nuts. Everyone would have to close it, we would change the sharing, and everyone would get back in. There’s lots of talk on the internet about this kind of problem, but no solution that has worked for us. And, it’s not like we have this huge IT setup, we are a company of 17 people.

So we tried doing the shared spreadsheet in Google Docs, figuring that since everyone was accessing via the internet, Google would have the sharing thing figured out. It sure looks like they do! It took me about an hour to get everyone set up with a Google account and a shortcut on their desktop.

Google says that up to 50 people can share the spreadsheet at the same time. We are doing  it with a dozen people, and we are very pleased with it. In fact, we find it easier to do things like add lines in Google Docs, which given the nature of what we do with the spreadsheet, we do quite a bit.

Sorry Microsoft, but when the new Office comes, out, we are not going to buy it. Our original plan was to hope that the new Office would solve out problem, but this works well, and is available now. Best of all, it’s free.

Trade Show Booth Graphics

trade show booth graphics

“Top Five Feet” Booth

People often ask for trade show booth graphics that extend to the floor. That can be a waste of money for two reasons:

1. Nobody looks at the floor!

2. You often have a table of your goods in front of the booth, which makes it hard to see booth graphics below table level.

3. It is our temptation, as westerners, to put important things at the bottom right of our pages. That’s a bad place for them on trade show booth graphics, see #1 and #2 above!

Our rules for doing effective trade show booth graphics is to have something colorful that will bring the eye, and six words or less that will interest your target customer. This booth from Yellow Dog Software does both beautifully, and it doesn’t waste money on booth graphics that nobody looks at.

Vinyl Banners help you sell more!

vinyl banners for retail stores

Vinyl Banner

I always tell people from the South that snow removal for us is like air conditioning for them! This vinyl banner lets customers know that when they need a plow part, this company has them.

Which is a big deal around these parts, since you can’t be without your plow for any length of time.

A vinyl banner like this can help you sell to people who otherwise might not know what you carry. An auto parts store doesn’t necessarily carry plow parts, but the vinyl banner lets them know you do.

More sales! That’s what our vinyl banners help you get.

Trade Show Booth with a Difference

trade show booth backdrop

Unique Booth Backdrop

When I saw these trade show booth prints coming off of one of our printers, I had to ask our designer what they were all about. He told me they were a backdrop in a trade show booth, and now that I’ve seen how they were used in a trade show booth, I think it’s pretty neat.

The geometric pattern forms looks three dimensional in the customer‘s trade show booth. It’s enough to be interesting, but not so much that it detracts from the products that they are displaying. They were very pleased how it looks, and so are we!

Small Business Signs

signs for small business

Small business signs

A new small business just starting out faces a tough choice about making their signs. You can go to a sign maker and buy pretty expensive signs that will last for 20 years. That chews up a big chunk of your startup capital.

Alternately, you can do something really cheap like laminating a paper sign. That makes you look unprofessional.

We offer a third, middle alternative. We can flatbed print on a PVC plastic board to make your small business sign. They will last 3-5 years, which is long enough for the business to become stable and profitable. If you get that far, you can invest in permanent small business signage.

The picture is from Marie at the Central NH Weight Loss Center, who designed her signs in PowerPoint and sent them to us. We output the files onto sintra sheets and she installed them at her business. Total cost about $150 for three small business signs.
